This category is named 2020.
Obviously a lot happened to the world in 2019 but the extent of the effects really hit home in 2020.
In 2020 we saw the fight against Covid-19 involve whole regions and countries in lock down. A side benefit of these lock downs was a chance to reflect on the things we value in life and that our own families and communities are extremely important.
2020 also saw some benefits of the considerable advances in digital technology where many people were able to work from home and more flexibility in work practices came into being. For many there were new ways of communicating with families, friends and work colleagues. Social media was central to this.
However, this category is called 2020 becuse it is a long established measure of clear and focused eyesight.
2020 is a label for our approach to the looming climate change emergency which, in our opinion, will be far more costly and widespread than the Covid-19 "warm-up" act.
The climate emergency is happening. It is not as sudden as drought, nor as localized as the imminent dangers posed by bushfires or local extreme weather events such as flooding. It will roll on rerentlessly unless the world comes together in a united unselfish manner to tackle the issue.
